Let's Hear It for the Babies

Reading daily with infants and toddlers sets the positive foundation for early literacy development.  Their attention spans are very short, so your shared reading experiences will only be a couple of minutes at a stretch.  To tap into your baby's interests, try books that feature other babies.  Babies and toddlers love reading books about other babies!  Here are a handful of favorites to share with your youngest readers - enjoy!




All of Baby Noes to Toes by Victoria Adler (up to age 3)
This delightful, bouncing story is perfect for a lap-read with your toddler.  From eyes to ears to belly to toes and lots in between, family members celebrate this baby.   

What Shall We Do with the Boo Hoo Baby? by Cressida Cowell (up to age 2)
All parents go through those days when there seems to be no consoling for an unhappy infant.  These sweet animals try several ideas to help calm this crying baby.  

This Is the Baby by Candace Fleming (up to age 3)
Written in a similar repetition to The House that Jack Built, many parents will smile at the familiar process of trying to get a bouncy, wiggly baby dressed for an outing.  

Ten Little Fingers, Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox (up to age 4)
A collaboration between author Mem Fox and illustrator Helen Oxenbury is a treat for all.  The bouncy rhyme and simple, endearing images create a baby story not to be missed.  

The Baby Goes Beep by Rebecca O'Connell (up to age 2)
This baby's day is noisy and busy, filled with many activities that will be familiar to lots of infants and toddlers.  The bright illustrations with grab their attention and the playful use of language will keep it.  

How about a Kiss for Me? by Todd Tarpley (ages 1-3)
A sweet story told in rhyme shows a little boy and and all of the animals and critters that might be worthy of a kiss.  The satisfying ending shows a bonding moment with Dad.
